    A DAY OFF

I got sick since Wednesday or Thursday.  Friday I had to take a sick leave.  So the whole long weekend I did nothing but eating and sleeping.  It was odd, but I found myself, sprawling on wood floor to sleep my days away.  It was even odder that I was able to dream.  So Dạ Thảo, I will not be jealous of you for having a lot of interesting dreams.

I dreamed of him holding me from behind, his head rested lightly on my left shoulder.  I could turn toward him to kiss him but I did not.  I was happy with his familiar scent, and the lull of his voice.  We were rolling on the luscious green lawn.  I was laughing.  Vaguely, there were warm lips.  I remembered touching his lips with my right hands.  I remembered that I said, “Your lips are killers.”  I woke up and realized that I did not get to see his face in my dream although I was able to cup my hand around his face, and my thumb caressed his cheek.  Miss his strong shoulder and large chest. The bad part of my dreams was I always had incomplete dreams.  So always there was a silently tender wish that I would get the completion when I go to bed again.

During the days, between my sleep I lied on the floor listening to the bird songs around my house.  I could distinguish many different voice patterns of many birds, just did not know the birds’ names.  Just based on the voice and their songs there had to be at least 10 different kinds of birds on the trees around me.

Inside the house was too cold so sometimes I just brought the lap top to outside, and I sat under the sun like a lazy cat.  Let the warm pink sun light enveloped my skin.  I felt as if I was able to draw energy from intense light and heat.  My deck was still wet and full of the remnants of leaves and flowers.  There is a tree in Steve’s yard, my next door neighbor, blooms fully; its flowers smelling light and pretty.  I am content with azure sky, jade trees, white and pinkish flowers, bird songs, jasmine tea, lap top, my sleep, tea cake and strawberry, and my dream.  I remembered a friend came to visit earlier commented that my life was like the life of a Buddhist Zen monk (nun to be exact.)  And my place had a quiet atmosphere of a temple.
